Schools and Classrooms
S3’s modular design is so adaptable and flexible, it can accomodate the need for one classroom or an entire school campus. Currently underway, is construction of a new high school campus in Orange County, California.
A single classroom constructed of two ISBU modules for a training center in Hawaii designed to be relocated after training is completed.
A preliminary design for a large university lecture hall in Haiti incorporating three modules. Security features, such as decorative steel grates on the windows and doors, will protect supplies and equipment.
An elevation of a new high school currently being built in Orange County, California. Construction will be carried out in phases to include classrooms, an auditorium, two sceince labs, a computer lab, art rooms, administrative offices, restrooms and a student canteen. There is no disruption of school in session because the new buildings are constructed off site and “installed” on campus upon completion.
A dramatic space for the auditorium is created by stacking ISBU modules, open at the top and reinforced with trusses.
Landscaping and a variety of materials, sun screens and awnings enliven exterior architecture and pedestrian walkways.
Cost effectiveness and safety in an area prone to earthquakes were primary considerations in the decision to use container-based architecture for this new high school, but there were two other important advantages: the simplicity of building in phases as funds become available; and the unique advantage of being able to disassemble the buildings and move them once acquisition of a new site for the school is accomplished.
